The webinar was great - it worked really well. I liked that we were given a few minutes to use each tool and to think about how we could apply it in our context. Posted By: Webinar Participant Jacobs Well EEC |
Fantastic session - as someone whos not a Geographer or taught Geography before my senior students are definitely going to benefit. Once again, thank you! Posted By: Webinar Participant Lorne P12 College |

Contour Education provided relevant, modern and engaging teaching and learning resources for teaching Geographical Information Systems in the high school context. Mick Law's passionate and professional approach together with his comprehensive knowledge of the Australian Curriculum meant that teachers walked away from their professional development with a greater insight into the way they can link GIS within the classroom and assessment in a meaningful way. Thank you for the best professional development session in Geography. The staff involved were both impressed with the examples provided and excited about the possibilities for using these in the classroom. I especially liked the links to the geography curriculum and the short practical aspects of the learning.. It was well organised with modelling and hands on practice. The admin team were happy as staff feedback was very positive. Thank you for making it useful, immediately applicable and fun. Mick has a well-deserved, Australia-wide reputation as a guru when it comes to incorporating geospatial technologies in geographical education. I've had professional contacts with Mick for many years, but the highlight has to be Mick introducing 16 high-achieving students to geospatial technologies during the annual Geography?s Big Week Out, the selection/training event for Australia?s team to the International Geography Olympiad. For many of our students, this is the highlight of the program and it really opens their eyes to the wide applications of geography. Mick Law has provided contemporary and cutting edge professional learning for teachers in collaboration with Brisbane Catholic Education in the areas of Geography, Science, Numeracy and GIS technologies during the last 3 years. His comprehensive knowledge of Geospatial Technologies and his deep understanding of the Geography curriculum have allowed teachers to strengthen and deepen their own understandings. He has also been very effective in relating these skills to Numeracy and Science in the Australian Curriculum. Mick presents relevant real world information with a practical application to the classroom. His teaching is highly engaging and he is able to communicate well with all audiences. I would recommend Mick Law for his teaching skills, professional knowledge and communication skills. Posted By: Belinda Emmi Numeracy Project Officer Brisbane Catholic Education |
Mick has been an integral part of our journey to reengage our students and staff with spatial technologies in Geography. His passion and expertise in this field are evident throughout his presentations and his calm, patient and humorous nature, make him a pleasure to work with, on campus. I am sure we will continue to work with Mick for many years to come! Posted By: Leanne Mitchell Australia |
Mick Law has been pivotal in the promotion of GIS in schools in Australia. Mick?s work with teachers to help them tackle the spatial technology and GIS learning curve has been instrumental in enabling schools to introduce GIS into their curriculum. Mick has built a reputation as a patient, empathetic and highly experienced adult educator who can translate the complex world of spatial technology into a purposeful and achievable pursuit for the classroom teacher and their students. In recent years Mick has produced outstanding ?user friendly? resources on his ?Contour Education? website to help teachers use GIS in their classroom. In 2012 Mick was a highly valued member of the Educational Services Australia Supporting Australian Curriculum Online (SACOL) GeogSpace project developed by the Australian Geography Teachers Association (AGTA). The four Illustrations of Practice written by Mick for GeogSpace are used across Australia and receive positive comments regarding their accessibility and usefulness for teachers to learn GIS to develop spatial literacy in our schools. I have no trouble in recommending Mick as a provider of professional learning for teachers. He inspired and supported teachers to embrace the new curriculum and technological approach with enthusiasm. As a provider of professional learning myself I know how difficult it can be but Mick Law is a true professional. Posted By: Lee Misra Petrie, QLD |
